MUMBAI....... MERI JAAN.

I HAVE BEEN HEARING THIS SLOGAN MUMBAI..... MERI JAAN FOR AGES AND I ALWAYS USED TO WONDER WHY IS THE WORD 'MUMBAI' SEPARATED FROM THE WORDS 'MERI JAAN'. THIS GOT A CRUEL TWIST YESTERDAY... COZ THE HUMAN LIFE (JAAN) IS NOT SAFE IN THE CITY...MUMABI

THIS IS THE SAME CITY THT WAS BOASTED AS THE CROWN JEWEL OF INDIA... OF COSMOPOLITANISM... OF THE MODERN INDIA... OF TOLERANT INDIA... OF RESURGENT INDIA...

TODAY IT LIES BATTER AND BRUISED AS THE PICTURE OF A WEAK INDIA... OF A SCARED INDIA... OF AN INDIA THT IS THE FREE FOR ALL GROUND OF ALL KIND OF TERRORISTS AND DESPOTS....

ALL IT TOOK THE USA WAS ONE 9/11 TO HUNT DOWN THE PERPETRATORS AND TAKE THEM TO THEIR LOGICAL CONCLUSION EVEN AT THE COST OF A FEW NATIONS.... THT WAS THE SINGLE MINDED DOGGEDNESS OF THE NATION HURT... AND SEETHING TO AVENGE ITS PPL

AND WE IN INDIA ARE SO USED TO THE THIS THT WE DONT EVEN TAKE IT SERIOUSLY ANYMORE... THE PEOPLE CLAIMING TO BE THE LEADERS OF OUR NATIONS ARE SO ABSORBED IN THEIR MONEY LAUNDERING TRICKS THT NATIONAL SECURITY FOR THEM SEEMS TO HAVE BECOME A WASTE OF TIME... WHERE IS THE WALKING PRINCE NOW???? NO STATEMENTS??? NOTHING TO SAY??????

PPL IN MUMBAI MIGHT BE REALLY GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF BEING CAJOLED TO TAKE YET ANOTHER WOUND IN THE GARB OF THE SPIRIT OF MUMABI.....

GUYS WHO ARE WE FOOLING????? WE ARE A NATION OF WIMPS WHO DO NOT HAVE THE COURAGE TO PROTECT OUR OWN PPL..... AND THEY WOULD WANT US TO BELIEVE THAT WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO BECOME A SUPERPOWER...

I AM ASHAMED OF BEING A SILENT SPECTATOR TO THIS TRAVESTY... I AM INDEED ASHAMED OF BEING AN INDIAN....

HOMAGE TO THE DEPARTED BRETHREN...!

PEACE BE UPON YOU!!!

SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY...!!!

till was in school or even in college i used to enjoy sundays.. in fact my whole existence revolved around a sunday... as one sunday went i dreamily waited fr the next....

however last few years...my life is different .. although the common denominator is still sunday...wht is different is tht i want to avoid the sunday.. its not as if i have suddenly transformed into this workaholic maniac who wants to work and work... naah.. i am the same sluggish, lazy person tht i always was ...

sundays freak me out coz of the truckloads of home chores tht are lined up for me... there has been a slight role reversal in my life... now my dear wife waits from one sunday to the other ticking off chores frm her never ending and regularly replenishing list... and these scientists would want us to believe that there is no perpetual machine in this world..

like many other sundays before, this sunday i had made grand plans of lethargy which were rudely shattered by the already referred chore list... i was virtually kicked out of my slumber and made to go to market... of the female type which includes clothes.... shoes..... etc...there i had a life altering revelation....

.
.
.
THAT I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS TORTURE ZONE... THERE ARE MANY MORE IN FAR WORSE CONDITION....

MORAL OF THE STORY: I THOUGHT I WAS THE MOST UNFORTUNATE MAN TO HAVE NO SHOES TILL I SAW A MAN WHO HAD NO FEET...

CHEER UP GUYS... SUNDAY IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!

CORRUPTION - THE FAD

i have been noticing in the last few weeks tht all and sundry consider pooh poohing the corrupt ways of us Indians a fad. this obviously means that the pseudo-intellectuals (read out of work writers, playwrights, irrelevant politicians, diplomats etc) are having a field day.. gleaming to the camera and huffing and puffing over the current scenario of the corruption in the nation.. i feel from their expression is that the only thing that they are really sad about is the fact that they are not getting their share in the pie.

i am not condoning corruption or conceding it a the way things in India work. NO.. corruption must eradicated.. or atleast brought within manageable limits (wht does tht mean????) so at least the citizens can afford to pay the desired bribe to the concerned people.

but the only thing that is really bothering me is the vigilante custodians of the society, the Hazare, Ramdev et al.... tell me who the heck gave this ppl the right to call them my representative and negotiate on my behalf???? if it is indeed the mandate of these people to help teh general citizenry of the nation why do they not come up for elections and get elected from amongst the people. they shall then be the representatives of the people in the rue sense..

they could then go raise these issues in the parliament like civilised people and not blackmail the nation (including the lame govt) by sitting on dharnas, fasts etc which are nothing more than image building exercises and a massage for their own egos because tell me WHAT HAVE THESE PEOPLE ACHIEVED FOR THE NATION OUT OF THIS GIMMICK??? AND THEY CALL THEM SELVES..... CIVIL SOCIETY .. wudnt civil society mean that the respect the law of the land????

rootless nostalgia

i was to go to Srinagar on work. OK confession time... i was a little apprehensive about the security scenario there but then work is work.. plus added advantage of visiting my home town. Excuse me??? did i just say home town??? sorry about that.. i have visited the town (the catch word being visited) 5-6 times; the last such occasion being a little before i celebrated my 9th birthday...

it's then that it struck me.. people like me do not have a place to call home town in the real sense of it.. we are the classical case of rootless people. so let me just say i was to go to my ancestor's city.

after the tired journey when i reached the place... it was a disappointing to say the least. Srinagar was like any other city.. i might as well have been back HOME in Chandigarh.. same old dust and grime...

but i felt a strange sense of belonging there.. some peace as if i was a part of that area... though i speak stuttering Kashmiri at the best of times.i felt energised to be there.. i dragged my co-traveller to go visit the Dal.. and next morning was up @ 6 to visit the Shakeracharya temple..

it felt so nice to hear the language of my ancestors (Kashmiri) be used as lingua franca there.

i was pining to go visit my ancestral home place where my dad and before him even my grand dad had played and lived.. but then i was warned by the army ppl that i was visiting that Rainawari (thtz where i wanted to go) was not the safest place to visit in the city... that and the lack of time sealed the fate of my rainawari visit...

but some time... some time later...

I WILL BE BACK (sorry fr the cheap rip off from terminator)...
